In response to the European Union's stringent Battery Passport requirements, Electra, a trailblazer in battery software solutions, has launched a revolutionary new battery passport solution - EVE-Ai (European Advance Governance and Lifecycle Evaluation - EAGLE Battery Pass). This innovative solution is designed to help businesses effectively capitalize on the EU’s regulatory requirements for battery lifecycle tracking.
Electra expounds on how its battery passport solution empowers battery producers, fleet operators, and other key industry players to meet the compulsory Battery Passport requirements. Not only does it simplify compliance, but it also provides valuable battery insights that enhance operational efficiency, reinforce safety, and drive long-term sustainability.
By 2027, any battery with a capacity exceeding 2kWh aiming to enter the European Union market must comply with the EU Battery Passport requirements. This battery passport is essential for tracing lifecycle data—from the battery’s inception to its final disposal.
To escalate sustainability, performance metrics and transparency, the regulation mandates businesses to assemble, disclose, and disseminate standardized battery information.
Electra stresses that businesses can incorporate these EU Battery Passport requirements as early as 2025 to stay ahead of the curve, ensuring they maintain a competitive edge while demonstrating their commitment to sustainable practices. By adopting the battery passport system early, businesses can position themselves as leaders in the evolving battery lifecycle management sector.
According to Electra, the EU Battery Passport requirements differentiate between static and dynamic data. Static data includes basic manufacturing and identification details, while dynamic data requires frequent updates throughout the battery's lifespan, adding complexity to the process.
The EAGLE Battery Pass goes beyond just simplifying compliance with the EU Battery Passport requirements. It is a powerful tool for enhancing transparency and facilitating real-time updates, as stated by Electra. The platform automatically records and updates key battery performance metrics, ensuring businesses meet EU battery passport regulations and use compliance as an operational advantage.
Among the dynamic metrics captured by the EVE-Ai system include state of certified energy / health / charge, internal resistance, and charge-discharge cycles, providing an in-depth log of complete cycles, enabling a comprehensive analysis of battery wear, and aiding in maintenance planning.
On November 7, the Global Battery Alliance disclosed the outcomes of their battery passport pilot schemes. According to them, ten groups, led by the world's top battery cell manufacturers, who collectively represent 80% of the universal EV market, mobilized their supply chains and successfully completed the largest pre-competitive initiative to institute harmonized battery passports. Collectively, they amassed more than 200 sustainability reports.
