Global Grid-Scale Battery Storage Deployments Increase 38% Through October

The global adoption of grid-scale battery energy storage systems continues to accelerate, with installations reaching approximately 156 GWh so far this year. An additional 153 GWh of capacity remains scheduled for commissioning in 2025, though the final total may be subject to change due to potential project delays.

Industry data indicates a 38% year-on-year expansion in global energy storage deployment, underscoring the growing significance of utility-scale battery systems in supporting the global energy transition. One major Asian market recorded a 27% increase, while Europe and North America each reported growth of 21%. Regions outside these established markets experienced a notable rise of 242%, reflecting broader momentum for large-scale battery installations worldwide.

In October alone, 12.7 GWh of new energy storage capacity was added, representing a 29% increase compared to the same month in the previous year. A significant portion of this new capacity was installed in Asia, which contributed nearly 8.8 GWh of utility-scale storage, including a large flow battery system. This highlights the rapid expansion of the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market and its role in facilitating the integration of renewable energy into power systems globally.
