Energizing the Future: Desert Quartzite Solar and Battery Storage Nears Completion in California

2024-09-23

In Riverside County, California, the Desert Quartzite project is nearing completion, marking a significant milestone in the state’s transition to clean energy. Once operational, the site will generate 300 megawatts (MW) of solar power, supported by a 150 MW/4-hour battery energy storage system (BESS). This combined system will provide sustainable energy under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA), benefiting 35 communities in Los Angeles and Ventura Counties through Clean Power Alliance, a leading Community Choice Aggregator.

With the project expected to be finalized by the end of the year, EDF Renewables' Asset Optimization team will oversee long-term operations and maintenance, ensuring efficient and reliable energy delivery.

A Powerful Collaboration in California's Clean Energy Future

Pierre-Olivier Perras, Managing Partner at Power Sustainable Energy Infrastructure (PSEI), expressed his excitement over this critical investment in California's utility-scale clean energy market. “This collaboration highlights our shared dedication to making this partnership a success. EDF Renewables has demonstrated exceptional expertise and professionalism throughout the process, and we are thrilled to be part of this transformative journey,” Perras commented.

This marks PSEI’s largest clean energy investment to date, building on the momentum of their initial foray into California’s renewable energy market last year. The Desert Quartzite project represents a bold step forward in the expansion of clean energy infrastructure across North America.

EDF Renewables: Committed to a Sustainable Energy Future

Hamed Baatout, Vice President of Divestiture and Portfolio Strategy at EDF Renewables, emphasized the importance of this partnership in achieving shared goals. “This transaction is a testament to our commitment to decarbonizing energy and promoting sustainable practices. We’re excited to collaborate with Power Sustainable and eager to see what we’ll achieve together as we push forward with clean energy solutions,” said Baatout.

Potentia Renewables: Driving Clean Energy Innovation

Jeremy Jagt, President of Potentia Renewables, echoed the enthusiasm of his partners. “We are proud to work alongside Power Sustainable and EDF Renewables on the Desert Quartzite Solar+Storage Project. This investment strengthens our commitment to expanding clean energy infrastructure in North America and highlights our dedication to providing sustainable, effective energy solutions for the future. Together, we are well-positioned to meet the evolving energy needs of communities and promote environmental responsibility.”
