Promoting Innovation in Road Embedded Electric Vehicle Charging

2024-02-26

Hey there! Exciting news alert – Swinburne University of Technology has recently been given a whopping $3 million to revolutionize the way we charge our vehicles. They are working on integrating dynamic wireless charging technology into roads, which means trucks and buses can charge up wirelessly as they zoom down the highways!

The main goal of this project is to electrify heavy vehicles, solving the problem of keeping these vehicles fully charged when they're carrying heavy loads across long distances. Professor Mehdi Seyedmahmoudian, the mastermind behind the project, believes that by seamlessly incorporating dynamic wireless charging systems into road infrastructure, we are on the brink of a complete transformation in the heavy vehicle industry.

“This collaboration is a game-changer that aligns with our shared vision of creating a sustainable transportation system that reduces our impact on the environment,” said Seyedmahmoudian enthusiastically.

The benefits of this project are huge – not only will it help the planet, but it will also make the transportation industry more efficient and safe. By electrifying heavy vehicles, Australia could potentially save a whopping $324 billion by 2050, according to Swinburne University of Technology.

Funded by the Australian Government's Cooperative Research Centres Projects (CRC-P) Grants scheme, this $8.2 million project aims to create an advanced wireless charging infrastructure on regional roads in collaboration with ACE Infrastructure, SEA Electric, Fleet Plant Hire, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Siemens, ARRB Group, and Net Zero Stack. Exciting times ahead!
