WHAT is Pre-Lithiation Technology?

Problem: 

Consumed lithium during cell cycles reduces capacity, cycle life, and energy density.


Solution: 

Pre-lithiation supplements consumed lithium ions to enhance cell performance.

  • Adding LFO to the LFP cathode mix can extend cycle life.
  • During the first charge, 6-15% lithium is lost from the cathode to form SEI on the anode.
  •  Pre-lithiation replenishes this lost lithium, improving cycle life.

WHAT is the Working Principle of Pre-Lithiation Technology?

Compensation:

Increases active lithium content to compensate for losses during SEI formation in the first cycle.


Sustained Release: 

Excess active lithium in the anode is gradually released, enhancing cycle life.

Comparisons between Traditional Lithium Battery Cells and Cells with Pre-Lithiation Technology 

Cycle Life at 1C and 0.5C Charge/Discharge:

  • Traditional: 70% SOH at 5000 cycles with 1C and at 7000 cycles with 0.5C.
  • Pre-lithiated: 70% SOH at 9000 cycles with 1C and at 12000 cycles with 0.5C.


Long-Term Life:

  • Traditional: 60% SOH at 10-15 years.
  • Pre-llthiated: 62% SOH at 20 years.


Working Conditions:

  • Traditional: face life-limited challenges.
  • Pre-lithiated: have a full margin, performing better.
