Italy Adds 4.8 GW of Solar Capacity Between January and October

2025-11-19
Italy added 4.81 GW of solar PV in ten months, with growing energy storage, driving steady progress in the country’s renewable energy transition.

Italy installed approximately 4.81 GW of new photovoltaic (PV) capacity during the first ten months of the year, according to recently released national solar capacity data. This marks a notable step in the growth of the Italy solar market and highlights ongoing solar PV growth across the country.

Current trends suggest that the overall annual increase may moderate compared with the previous year, when solar power additions reached 6.8 GW. In earlier years, annual PV deployments totaled 5.23 GW in 2023, 2.48 GW in 2022, and 0.94 GW in 2021, reflecting the long-term expansion of the Italian PV sector.

In October alone, approximately 732 MW of grid-connected solar systems were commissioned. By the end of the month, Italy’s cumulative solar capacity had reached 41.88 GW, demonstrating steady progress in the renewable energy in Italy sector.

The country’s electrochemical energy storage infrastructure also saw growth. Total installed energy storage capacity reached 5.33 GW and 10.66 GWh, while newly deployed storage during the first ten months of the year amounted to 841 MW and 1,541 MWh. These developments emphasize the increasing integration of solar and storage deployment figures in Italy’s ongoing energy transition.
