Industry data indicates that around 22 GWh of the country's installed battery energy storage capacity comes from home battery storage systems. This means residential installations now account for roughly 75% of the total battery storage capacity in Germany, while the remaining capacity is divided between commercial and utility-scale battery storage projects.

During the first quarter of 2026, more than 2 GWh of new energy storage systems were installed, representing a 67% year-over-year increase. The record growth was largely driven by the commissioning of new grid-scale battery storage facilities, alongside continued expansion of residential energy storage systems.
