Australia is introducing a new initiative aimed at increasing transparency and accountability across the renewable energy and energy storage sectors. The program is designed to help communities and industry stakeholders better understand developer performance, while supporting the rapid expansion of clean energy projects nationwide.
Over 60 developers have already joined the pilot phase, which will run until March 2026. At the end of the trial, ratings for those that meet the required standards will be published, providing the public with greater visibility into the track record of companies driving renewable energy and battery storage projects.
The scheme will apply to a wide range of businesses involved in renewable energy generation, transmission, and energy storage development. Developers will be evaluated based on critical criteria that influence project success, including:
Developers who meet the standards will be listed in a publicly available register, enhancing accountability across the sector. Those who do not participate or fall short of the requirements will not be included.
The initiative is expected to strengthen confidence in Australia’s clean energy transition by helping landholders and local communities navigate the complexities of project development. It also seeks to accelerate deployment of battery storage systems, which play an increasingly vital role in balancing the grid and supporting renewable power integration.
Although initially voluntary, authorities have encouraged broad participation from developers to ensure best practices are widely adopted. The program aims to establish a benchmark for operational excellence in the rollout of renewable energy and energy storage projects, ensuring they are developed responsibly and contribute to long-term sustainability goals.
