Lifepo4 is actually a kind of positive electrode material of lithium ion battery, so people named it lifepo4 according to its positive electrode material. The full name of it is lithium iron phosphate lithium ion battery. This name is too long, referred to as lifepo4. Some people also call it a lithium iron (LiFe) power battery.

Ⅰ. Working principles of lifepo4

Lifepo4 refers to a lithium ion battery that uses lithium iron phosphate as a positive electrode material. The cathode materials of lithium-ion batteries mainly include lithium cobalt oxide, lithium manganate, lithium nickelate, ternary materials, lithium iron phosphate and so on. Among them, lithium cobalt oxide is the cathode material used by most lithium-ion batteries.

Ⅱ. Advantages of lifepo4

1. Improvement of safety function

The P-O bond in lithium iron phosphate crystal is stable and difficult to decompose. Even at high temperature or overcharge, it will not collapse and generate heat like lithium cobalt oxide or form a strong oxidizing substance, so it has outstanding safety.

2. Improvement of lifespan

Lifepo4 refers to a lithium-ion battery that uses lithium iron phosphate as the positive electrode material. Longevity The cycle life of lead-acid batteries is about 300 times, the highest is 500 times, while the cycle life of lithium iron phosphate power batteries reaches more than 2000 times. The standard charging (5 hour rate) application can reach 2000 times.

3. Good high-temperature function

The peak value of lithium iron phosphate electric heating can reach 350℃-500℃, while lithium manganate and lithium cobaltate are only around 200℃. The operating temperature is wide (-20℃~-75℃), with high temperature resistance, the electric heating peak of the lifepo4 can reach 350℃-500℃, while the lithium manganate and lithium cobaltate are only around 200℃.

4. Large capacity

When the rechargeable battery is often operated under the condition of overflowing and not being discharged, the capacity will quickly fall below the value of the extra capacity. This phenomenon is called the memory effect. Like nickel-metal hydride and nickel-cadmium batteries, there is memory, but lithium iron phosphate batteries do not have this phenomenon. No matter what state the battery is in, it can be charged and used as soon as it is charged.

5. Light

The volume of a lifepo4 of equal specification and capacity is 2/3 of that of a lead-acid battery, and its weight is 1/3 of that of a lead-acid battery.

6. Environmental protection

Lithium iron phosphate batteries are generally considered to be free of any heavy metals and rare metals (the nickel-hydrogen battery requires rare metals), non-toxic (SGS certified), no pollution. It is an absolute green battery certificate.

Lithium iron phosphate batteries also have their shortcomings such as poor low-temperature function, low tap density of the positive electrode material. And the volume of the lifepo4 of equal capacity is larger than that of lithium-ion batteries such as lithium cobalt oxide, so it has no advantage in micro-batteries.

When used in power batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries are the same as other batteries. They all face common battery problems.
